16th-17th century AD. A plain D-section hoop with inscription to the inner face in seriffed capitals 'HOPE* HELFETH * GREE' (with 'F' in 'helfeth' in error for 'p'). The legend 'hope helpeth griefe' is recorded in Evans, J. English Posies and Posy Rings, Oxford, 1931, p.48. 2.28 grams, 18mm overall, 15.72mm internal diameter (approximate size British J 1/2, USA 5, Europe 9.32, Japan 9) (3/4"). Supplied with documentation as having been disclaimed under the Treasure Act, reference 2013T483; recorded with the PAS under reference KENT-FEF154.
