1835-1869 AD. A flat-section discoid plaque formed as a garter with raised lettering 'NOTTS AND DERBYs' and central shield with cross and three crowns (for Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Fire & Life Assurance Co.). 2.7 kg, 25cm (9 3/4"). Property of a gentleman; acquired in the 1970s. Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Fire & Life Assurance Co. was established in Nottingham in 1832. In 1869 its life assurance business was acquired by Norwich Union and its fire insurance business by Imperial Insurance Company which then changed its name to Imperial Fire Insurance Company. In turn, Imperial Fire became part of Alliance Assurance and subsequently Sun Alliance.
