Dated 1759 AD, old head. Obv: profile bust with GEORGIVS II DEI GRATIA legend. Rev: crowned arms with date above and M B F ET H REX F D B ET L D S R I A T ET T E legend. S. 3685; Fr. 349. 4.22 grams. Recovered from the HMS Ramillies shipwreck, Cornwall, UK site by the vendor personally, 1985; accompanied by a printout of information about the ship and the wreck site. HMS Ramillies was a British navy 90 gun ship of the line; during a violent storm, she was running for shelter and, due to a navigation error, ran hard aground (struck so hard that her masts broke) and was wrecked near Ramillies Cove, on the south Cornish coast on 14th February 1760.
