Scarce special issue of Truman's memoirs, perhaps prepared for distribution by the author; larger in size than the trade edition and if a different color cloth binding. The present set are presentation copies, inscribed by President Truman to David Lloyd. A long inscription in the first volume reads, in full: "To Hon. David D. Lloyd (Dave to me) with affectionate regards and with highest appreciation of his able and efficient service in the White House and as Director of the Library from his friend and former 'boss', Harry Truman. Independence Dec. 22, 1955". The second volume bears a brief inscription: "To Hon. David D. Lloyd from Harry Truman. 5/5/56." Truman has also addressed the slipcases, Volume 1 reading To Dave Lloyd From HST, Volume 2 bears only "Hon. David Lloyd" but clearly in Truman's hand. 

 

David Lloyd served in the Truman White House from 1948 through 1953 as a member of the White House Staff and Adminsitrative Assistant to President Truman. From 1953 to his passing in 1962 Lloyd was the Executive Director of the Harry S. Truman Library in Independence, Missouri.
