Description
19th century. Collection of four small lidded tortoiseshell boxes comprising of one with tortoiseshell on hinged lid; a tortoiseshell box with rectangular silvered metal accent on hinged lid raised on small white feet; a tortoiseshell box with larger rectangular silvered metal accent at center of hinged lid with paneled top raised on four petite legs; and a tortoiseshell box (missing one foot) inscribed on bottom "Ms John Alger Died February 20, 1852 Buried in Victoria Park Cemetary, July 25". Inscribed box measures approximately 1.4" x 2.75" x 1.75".
Condition
One box missing a foot. Damage to dome shaped box to top with missing veneer located on the side and back. The foot also looks replaced. The long box with flame tortoise shell does not close tightly.
