Important Notice: Please note that the format of this auction differs from a traditional eBay Live auction in that only absentee bids are accepted. There is no live "bidding on the close" in which to participate. All lots offered in this auction will close at exactly the same time, as opposed to a traditional one at a time closing of lots, and therefore there is no live "one lot at a time" bidding close in which to participate. Your left bids will compete with all other left bids by auction participants. Bids may be placed on the eBay system at any time prior to 9:00 PM EST, May 1, 2004. No bids will be recognized or accepted when the eBay Live "live bidding applet" is run early in the morning of May 2, 2004 strictly for the purpose of officially registering and recording the final auction results.

1886 N167 Old Judge Corcoran

Few nineteenth-century cards compare in rarity or significance to N167 Old Judges. These distinctive cards represent the first series of baseball cards issued by Old Judge. They feature photogravure portraits based on photographs by Joseph Wood. In addition to their very distinctive look, they are also the only Old Judge series to feature advertising on the reverse. The thin stock on which N167s are printed makes them especially susceptible to tears and other damage. Offered is a stunning high-grade example of Giants pitcher Larry Corcoran from this extremely rare set. Graded EX-MT 6 by PSA. Bright, crisp, and clean front and back. We believe PSA has been harsh on this gem. We grade it Near Mint, but whether Ex-Mt or Nr/Mt is appropriate, there is no question that this is a simply spectacular sample of one of the most condition sensitive, significant, and rarest issues in all of card collecting. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000.
