Important Notice: Please note that the format of this auction differs from a traditional eBay Live auction in that only absentee bids are accepted. There is no live "bidding on the close" in which to participate. All lots offered in this auction will close at exactly the same time, as opposed to a traditional one at a time closing of lots, and therefore there is no live "one lot at a time" bidding close in which to participate. Your left bids will compete with all other left bids by auction participants. Bids may be placed on the eBay system at any time prior to 9:00 PM EST, May 1, 2004. No bids will be recognized or accepted when the eBay Live "live bidding applet" is run early in the morning of May 2, 2004 strictly for the purpose of officially registering and recording the final auction results.

1887 N175 Large Gypsy Queen Denny

Extremely rare sample card from the large (2 x 3.5 inch) Gypsy Queen set of third baseman Denny of Indianapolis. Gypsy Queen was one of Goodwin's tobacco brands. These rare Large Gypsy Queens should not be confused with the smaller N172 Gypsy Queens (which are the size of standard Old Judges). The larger Gypsy Queens are among the scarcest of all pre-1900 card issues. There are only nine different large Gypsy Queens known to exist. This is an exceptional nineteenth-century rarity, and one of card collecting's toughest sample cards. Very high grade, with square corners and excellent contrast, the reverse is clean but for the sake of accuracy we must note that the back does have two small tape marks, apparently the remnants from long ago being carefully mounted into an album or a display, otherwise in Excellent to Mint condition. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$4,000.
