Important Notice: Please note that the format of this auction differs from a traditional eBay Live auction in that only absentee bids are accepted. There is no live "bidding on the close" in which to participate. All lots offered in this auction will close at exactly the same time, as opposed to a traditional one at a time closing of lots, and therefore there is no live "one lot at a time" bidding close in which to participate. Your left bids will compete with all other left bids by auction participants. Bids may be placed on the eBay system at any time prior to 9:00 PM EST, May 1, 2004. No bids will be recognized or accepted when the eBay Live "live bidding applet" is run early in the morning of May 2, 2004 strictly for the purpose of officially registering and recording the final auction results.
1887 Kalamazoo Bats Boston BBC Team Card Extraordinary high-grade example of the Boston Base Ball Club from the extremely rare 1887 Kalamazoo Bats series of team cards. There are only six team cards in the set, and Boston is one of the high profile keys to the set. The Boston Club was one of the powerhouses of the era, highlighted by Hall of Famers Mike "King" Kelly and "Old Hoss" Radbourne. The contrast on this example is superb. This is a remarkably sharp card, with square corners, perfect contrast, and exceptionally large borders. In fact, there is no question this is simply the largest Kalamazoo Bat team card we have ever seen. Cards from this era in general, and this set in particular, tend to vary in size, but the extra large borders on this example are especially noteworthy, and make the card all the more striking in appearance. This is one of the finest Kalamazoo Bats team cards we have ever seen. Held at just the right angle in the proper light, a few surface-only scratches can be detected, but this is extremely minor and may even be related to the production process (this is undetectable unless one is specifically looking for it, and is mentioned strictly for the sake of accuracy). The card is otherwise in Near Mint condition. Reserve $1,500. Estimate $3,000/$6,000. ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
