"Important Notice: Please note that the format of this auction differs from a traditional eBay Live auction in that only absentee bids are accepted. There is no live "bidding on the close" in which to participate. All lots offered in this auction will close at exactly the same time, as opposed to a traditional one at a time closing of lots, and therefore there is no live ""one lot at a time"" bidding close in which to participate. Your left bids will compete with all other left bids by auction participants. Bids may be placed on the eBay system at any time prior to 9:00 PM EST, May 1, 2004. No bids will be recognized or accepted when the eBay Live "live bidding applet" is run early in the morning of May 2, 2004 strictly for the purpose of officially registering and recording the final auction results.
1894 N142 Duke Cabinet William Nash Duke cabinet cards are among the most impressive and desirable of all pre-1900 issues. They are one of the few full-color pre-1900 issues, and the only full color pre-1900 cabinet card issue. In addition, they were issued in an era (mid-1890s) in which there were very few baseball card sets, making this issue all the more significant to a serious collector. There are only four ballplayers in this set. Offered is a magnificent sample from this legendary set of early Boston star third baseman William Nash. Upon close inspection the card has a very tiny pinhole at the top center along the border, a touch of wear to two corners and a light hint of a stain (which is extremely minor) to the left. A light crease in the upper left corner is virtually undetectable from the front, but can be more easily seen from the reverse. Despite minor faults, this is a very impressive looking card which has an overall Excellent appearance. It is a bright, clean, and very attractive example from one of card collecting's scarcest and most highly prized nineteenth-century cabinet card issues. Reserve $800. Estimate $2,000/$3,000."
