"Important Notice: Please note that the format of this auction differs from a traditional eBay Live auction in that only absentee bids are accepted. There is no live "bidding on the close" in which to participate. All lots offered in this auction will close at exactly the same time, as opposed to a traditional one at a time closing of lots, and therefore there is no live ""one lot at a time"" bidding close in which to participate. Your left bids will compete with all other left bids by auction participants. Bids may be placed on the eBay system at any time prior to 9:00 PM EST, May 1, 2004. No bids will be recognized or accepted when the eBay Live "live bidding applet" is run early in the morning of May 2, 2004 strictly for the purpose of officially registering and recording the final auction results.

Two 1914 Boston Garters Collins and Jennings

Two rare 1914 Boston Garters, both Hall of Famers, comprise this lot: Eddie Collins, and Hughie Jennings. The checklist on the back of each lists 10 cards to the set. Like the earlier sets issued by Boston Garter, these cards were also issued one per box of 12 Boston-brand garters. Because they are slightly smaller (each measuring approximately 6.5 x 4 inches), and printed in sepia tones as opposed to full color, the 1914 Boston Garter set has always received far less attention than the earlier two Boston Garter issues. They are, however, of a similar extreme rarity. The Eddie Collins card has a tiny hairline crease in the extreme left corner and a little rounding to the lower left corner, and is otherwise in Excellent condition. Jennings has a little corner wear which is slightly more pronounced in the lower two corners, and a hint of shading in the upper left corner, and is otherwise in Excellent condition. Overall both grade Vg-Ex/Ex. A very attractive pair of Hall of Famers from one of the rarest baseball card sets of the era. Total 2 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $1,500/$2,500."
