Important Notice: Please note that the format of this auction differs from a traditional eBay Live auction in that only absentee bids are accepted. There is no live "bidding on the close" in which to participate. All lots offered in this auction will close at exactly the same time, as opposed to a traditional one at a time closing of lots, and therefore there is no live "one lot at a time" bidding close in which to participate. Your left bids will compete with all other left bids by auction participants. Bids may be placed on the eBay system at any time prior to 9:00 PM EST, May 1, 2004. No bids will be recognized or accepted when the eBay Live "live bidding applet" is run early in the morning of May 2, 2004 strictly for the purpose of officially registering and recording the final auction results.
1942 Negro League World Series Program Historic Official Scorecard from the 1942 Negro League World Series game held September 29 at Shibe Park in Philadelphia between the Kansas City Monarchs and the Homestead Grays. This was the first Negro League World Series to be played after a ten year hiatus and also featured the legendary battle between pitching great Satchel Paige and power hitter extraordinaire Josh Gibson that was detailed in depth in Ken Burns' Baseball documentary. The program pictures Paige on the front and Gibson on the back cover. It has been opened to display both covers and has been mounted with tape to a framing board. Open, as displayed, the program measures 11" x 14." The program exhibits several horizontal creases, and some light watermarks in the upper corners. Despite these imperfections, this is still an extremely rare and historically significant Negro League scorecard, with tremendous display value, featuring two of the all-time greats from a lost era of professional baseball. Good condition. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
