Important Notice: Please note that the format of this auction differs from a traditional eBay Live auction in that only absentee bids are accepted. There is no live "bidding on the close" in which to participate. All lots offered in this auction will close at exactly the same time, as opposed to a traditional one at a time closing of lots, and therefore there is no live "one lot at a time" bidding close in which to participate. Your left bids will compete with all other left bids by auction participants. Bids may be placed on the eBay system at any time prior to 9:00 PM EST, May 1, 2004. No bids will be recognized or accepted when the eBay Live "live bidding applet" is run early in the morning of May 2, 2004 strictly for the purpose of officially registering and recording the final auction results.

1933 R337 Collection of 11 Including Ruth + 2 Stamps

One of the most unusual card issues of the early 1930s, R337s were issued in eight-card strips. Each card features a primitive, in most cases barely recognizable, full color artwork of the player on the front. For some reason, perhaps because of their rarity and the poor quality of the artwork, the set has always appealed to serious collectors. They certainly are different. Offered is a group of 11 including the following: Babe Ruth, Jimmie Foxx, P. Waner, Grimm, Terry, Frisch, Grove, Simmons, Lazzeri, H. Johnson, and Vergez. Each card was at one time mounted in a scrapbook and carefully removed, leaving minor paper remnants at the top of the reverse. Otherwise the group is in Excellent condition. The lot also includes two circa 1910 era stamp rarities, one of Cobb and one of Mathewson, which though from an earlier era, accompany this original owner collection. The two stamps are from an extremely rare baseball stamp series, are in Excellent condition, and are a very significant highlight to the lot in their own right. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600.
