Important Notice: Please note that the format of this auction differs from a traditional eBay Live auction in that only absentee bids are accepted. There is no live "bidding on the close" in which to participate. All lots offered in this auction will close at exactly the same time, as opposed to a traditional one at a time closing of lots, and therefore there is no live "one lot at a time" bidding close in which to participate. Your left bids will compete with all other left bids by auction participants. Bids may be placed on the eBay system at any time prior to 9:00 PM EST, May 1, 2004. No bids will be recognized or accepted when the eBay Live "live bidding applet" is run early in the morning of May 2, 2004 strictly for the purpose of officially registering and recording the final auction results.
1954 New York Giants Panoramic Photo Extraordinary and pristine large-format panoramic display photograph, measuring an extremely impressive 33 x 7 inches, features the National League Champions standing side by side at The Polo Grounds. Produced by Verna Photo Studios (357 Fifth Ave, Brooklyn, New York), this professional display was most likely produced as a keepsake for players and executives, to commemorate one of the Giants' greatest seasons. It is very rare to find panoramic style baseball photographs dating from the 1950s. While they were very popular from the teens to the 1930s, by the 1950s the traditional panoramic photograph was something of a lost art in the world of baseball photography. This is an incredible photo, with absolutely flawless contrast and clarity, and tremendous detail. The team is identified in white lettering along the base as "National League Champions, 1954 – The New York Giants." One of the few, and finest, baseball panoramic photographs of the era, from the "Year of the Catch" (Willie Mays' immortal catch in Game One of the 1954 World Series). Beautifully and very expensively matted and framed to measure 16 x 41.5 inches. Nr/Mt to Mint condition. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$4,000. ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
