Important Notice: Please note that the format of this auction differs from a traditional eBay Live auction in that only absentee bids are accepted. There is no live "bidding on the close" in which to participate. All lots offered in this auction will close at exactly the same time, as opposed to a traditional one at a time closing of lots, and therefore there is no live "one lot at a time" bidding close in which to participate. Your left bids will compete with all other left bids by auction participants. Bids may be placed on the eBay system at any time prior to 9:00 PM EST, May 1, 2004. No bids will be recognized or accepted when the eBay Live "live bidding applet" is run early in the morning of May 2, 2004 strictly for the purpose of officially registering and recording the final auction results.
1910 Morton's Hugh Jennings Cello Flag Pin Cello flag-shaped advertising pin features a portrait of Hall of Famer Hughie Jennings on the front, next to a colorful image of Buster Brown holding a loaf of bread, and his friend Tiger. To the right is Jennings' trademark rallying call, "Wee-Ah" in white lettering. Advertising for Morton's Holsum Bread ("Always a winner") appears on the reverse. This is a magnificent example of one of the all-time great baseball pins of the era. The die-cut flag shaped celluloid is designed to thread through the stickpin for wearing. Morton's also issued a set of 1.25 inch diameter celluloid pinbacks featuring Tigers players, which have always been a favorite with collectors. This unique die-cut flag pin of Jennings was issued at the same time, though only Jennings was to be issued in this format. We estimate that fewer than ten examples of this rare cello flag pin are known to exist. Ex-Mt. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
