Important Notice: Please note that the format of this auction differs from a traditional eBay Live auction in that only absentee bids are accepted. There is no live "bidding on the close" in which to participate. All lots offered in this auction will close at exactly the same time, as opposed to a traditional one at a time closing of lots, and therefore there is no live "one lot at a time" bidding close in which to participate. Your left bids will compete with all other left bids by auction participants. Bids may be placed on the eBay system at any time prior to 9:00 PM EST, May 1, 2004. No bids will be recognized or accepted when the eBay Live "live bidding applet" is run early in the morning of May 2, 2004 strictly for the purpose of officially registering and recording the final auction results.
1940 Babe Ruth Signed Check Babe Ruth signed check dated March 20, 1940. While Babe Ruth's exploits in the world of baseball are well documented, it is less widely known that "The Bambino" was quite a sportsman off the diamond as well. While Babe enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bowling, his true non-baseball passion was golf. Offered here is a testament to Ruth's love of the Links, in a beautifully signed check drawn on the Chemical Bank and Trust Co., payable to the St. Albans Golf Club in the amount of $125.00 and signed "G.H. Ruth" ("8") in bold, black ink. The strong ink signature is completely unaffected by the normal bank cancellation marks and stamps. A pristine example of the legendary slugger's signature, relating to his love of golf, and dating to the early years of his post-baseball life. Near Mint condition. Accompanied by an impressive non-vintage photograph (11 x 14 inches) of Ruth golfing, circa 1940, which is ideal for display with the check. LOAs from Mike Gutierrez/GAI and James Spence & Steve Grad/PSA DNA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$4,000. ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
