1945 FDR Season Pass Signed by Frick

 1945 National League pass is presented in a beautiful leather wallet case, exactly as when issued to President Franklin D. Roosevelt by National League President Ford Frick. It is most fitting that the season pass, which entitles the President entry to all National League games, is pass #1. The National League provided very few of these complimentary passes. The pass is accompanied by an original carbon copy of a letter (Gd) dated April 12, 1945 from FDR secretary Grace Tully to Frick, thanking him for the gift of the pass. Incredibly, this letter is dated and was sent the very day FDR died. Also accompanying is a non-vintage 8 x 10 inch photograph of President Roosevelt throwing out the first ball at a Washington Senators game. The wallet measures 4 x 6.75 inches. The actual cardboard pass measures 3 x 5 inches and is made out to "The President and Mrs. Roosevelt." It is personally signed by Ford C. Frick ("10") in black ink. Frick served as National League President from 1935 to 1950 and became Commissioner in 1951. 1945 was, of course, the last baseball season for Roosevelt, as he passed away in office on April 12th of that year. During the war, baseball played a special role in distracting the country from the serious world crisis at hand. Roosevelt was a great proponent of the game, especially during the dark days of World War II, giving this Presidential pass all the greater historical significance.
