Important Notice: Please note that the format of this auction differs from a traditional eBay Live auction in that only absentee bids are accepted. There is no live "bidding on the close" in which to participate. All lots offered in this auction will close at exactly the same time, as opposed to a traditional one at a time closing of lots, and therefore there is no live "one lot at a time" bidding close in which to participate. Your left bids will compete with all other left bids by auction participants. Bids may be placed on the eBay system at any time prior to 9:00 PM EST, May 1, 2004. No bids will be recognized or accepted when the eBay Live "live bidding applet" is run early in the morning of May 2, 2004 strictly for the purpose of officially registering and recording the final auction results.

1956 NY Yankees Signed Proclamation

Offered is an official proclamation signed by the entire New York Yankees team in honor of Yankee Day in Newark, which was held on June 12, 1956 in Newark, New Jersey. On 11 x 17 inch parchment paper, an astounding 36 members of the Yankee organization have signed the proclamation. Signatures include: Mickey Mantle, Whitey Ford, Billy Martin, Yogi Berra, Don Larsen, Elston Howard, Phil Rizzuto, Casey Stengel (mgr)., Bill Dickey (coach), Dan Topping (owner), and Mel Allen. The 1956 Yankees won 97 games on their way to a seven-game victory over the Brooklyn Dodgers in the World Series. Triple Crown winner Mickey Mantle, 19-game winner Whitey Ford, and the perfect game World Series performance pitcher Don Larsen led the team to victory. The city of Newark has long had a unique and significant relationship with the Yankees, with the Newark Bears serving for decades as the Yankees' longtime top minor farm team. The longtime sponsorship of Yankee radio and television broadcasts by Newark-based Ballantine Beer was also very important to the economics of the team. The proclamation memorializes the ten-year anniversary of Ballentine's sponsorship of the Yankees, and cites "The fond memories of the records established by the Newark Bears" and the "close bond of friendship between the Yankees and Newark…" The 36 members of the Yankee organization have signed below, in the large area provided for that purpose. All signatures are extremely neat and legible, in blue ink (raging from "8"to "10," averaging "9"). The entire piece has been very nicely matted and framed to a total dimension of 18 x 23.5 inches. We believe (though have no ways to state with certainty) that the matting and framing of the proclamation is original to the piece, as presented to Newark City officials. A unique and significant team signed official presentation piece from one of the great Yankee championship teams. Excellent to Mint condition. LOAs from Mike Gutierrez/GAI and James Spence & Steve Grad/PSA DNA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000.
