Important Notice: Please note that the format of this auction differs from a traditional eBay Live auction in that only absentee bids are accepted. There is no live "bidding on the close" in which to participate. All lots offered in this auction will close at exactly the same time, as opposed to a traditional one at a time closing of lots, and therefore there is no live "one lot at a time" bidding close in which to participate. Your left bids will compete with all other left bids by auction participants. Bids may be placed on the eBay system at any time prior to 9:00 PM EST, May 1, 2004. No bids will be recognized or accepted when the eBay Live "live bidding applet" is run early in the morning of May 2, 2004 strictly for the purpose of officially registering and recording the final auction results.
1887 N172 Old Judge Collection of 62 Exceptionally clean group of N172 Old Judges including 56 cards ranging from Ex to Nr/Mt condition (mostly Ex), plus an additional six cards in slightly lesser grades. The collection is highlighted by a Comiskey Brownie Champ portrait in Excellent condition. A complete listing of the 56 Ex or better cards follows: Comiskey, Foutz (Brownie Champ portrait, Ex with scrapbook paper remnants on reverse), Bishop, Burch, Burns (KC), Burns (Chicago), Casey, Clarke (Clark), Clements, Daley (Bos), Dalrymple, Daly (Chi), Dealey, Donnelly, Farrell (Wash), George, Getzein, Gilks, Gore, Hanrahan, Hatfield, Healey, Hines (Wash), Irwin (Phil), Johnston (3), Kappell, Mattimore, Maul, Murphy (NY), Nicholson (Clev), O'Brien (Bklyn), Poorman, Radford, Richardson (NY), Rooks, Schriver, Seery, Shomberg, Shreve (2), Slattery, Sprague, Stemmyer, Sutcliffe, Tate, Tebeau, Toole, Vinton, Weber, Weidman, Wheelock, Williamson, Willis, and Wise. The remaining six cards grade Vg to Vg-Ex: Burdock (portrait), Welch/Gleason (double player pose), Corcoran, Gillespie, Gilligan, and Greer (unusual "small picture/large border" style). Approximately 20 cards exhibit light glue or tape stains on their blank reverses, and a few cards have a small pricing notation in pencil, as is often the case with Old Judges. Such minor imperfections would not even have to be mentioned in the "old days" of collecting. A little back damage on Old Judges usually "comes with the territory," especially since so many cards were originally saved in scrapbook albums. This is an exceptionally clean, very carefully assembled collection of N172 Old Judges, put together by an advanced collector in the 1980s, one card at a time, with a concern for contrast and the overall eye appeal of each card. A great looking group. Total 62 cards. Reserve $3,000. Estimate $6,000/$8,000. ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
