Important Notice: Please note that the format of this auction differs from a traditional eBay Live auction in that only absentee bids are accepted. There is no live "bidding on the close" in which to participate. All lots offered in this auction will close at exactly the same time, as opposed to a traditional one at a time closing of lots, and therefore there is no live "one lot at a time" bidding close in which to participate. Your left bids will compete with all other left bids by auction participants. Bids may be placed on the eBay system at any time prior to 9:00 PM EST, May 1, 2004. No bids will be recognized or accepted when the eBay Live "live bidding applet" is run early in the morning of May 2, 2004 strictly for the purpose of officially registering and recording the final auction results.
1912 Christy Mathewson Pitching In A Pinch Signed Book Description Addendum: The dust jacket which accompanies the book is period but not original to this particular edition of Pitching in a Pinch. The dust jacket is a circa 1912 Grosset & Dunlap edition dust jacket; the book is a 1912 Putnam edition. Signed copy of Christy Mathewson's baseball book, Pitching In A Pinch, 304 pages, published by G.P. Putnam's Sons, New York and London, with original dust jacket. The book is boldly signed "Yours Truly, Christy Mathewson, June 16, 1912" ("9") in black fountain pen on the inside flyleaf. The inside front cover has an attached bookplate identifying it as book #218 from the private library of a Mr. John M. Uren, with instructions to "handle it with care, and return it to me within fourteen days from the date you borrow it." The signature and additional inscription are extremely strong. The original jacket, which rarely survives with the book in any condition, does exhibit general wear, is technically in Good condition but is intact and still displays beautifully. The book is exceptionally clean, in superb Excellent to Mint condition. LOAs from Mike Gutierrez/GAI and James Spence & Steve Grad/PSA DNA. Reserve $1,500. Estimate $3,000/$4,000.
