Important Notice: Please note that the format of this auction differs from a traditional eBay Live auction in that only absentee bids are accepted. There is no live "bidding on the close" in which to participate. All lots offered in this auction will close at exactly the same time, as opposed to a traditional one at a time closing of lots, and therefore there is no live "one lot at a time" bidding close in which to participate. Your left bids will compete with all other left bids by auction participants. Bids may be placed on the eBay system at any time prior to 9:00 PM EST, May 1, 2004. No bids will be recognized or accepted when the eBay Live "live bidding applet" is run early in the morning of May 2, 2004 strictly for the purpose of officially registering and recording the final auction results.
1913 Honus Wagner Advertising Schedule Display Stunning full-color cardboard advertising display issued by the First National Bank of Pittsburgh, featuring four striking images of Wagner above the complete 1913 Official National League schedule. Measuring an impressive 11 x 16 inches, this is one of the premier baseball advertising display pieces of the era, one of the few in full color, as well as one of the few which pays tribute to the great Honus Wagner. The exceptional card-like production quality, and the advertising schedule display's connection to Wagner's hometown of Pittsburgh, also contributes to making this one of the most substantial of all early baseball-advertising displays. It is also one of the rarest. To the best of our knowledge, this is only the second example of this significant rarity to ever surface. The other example originated from Honus Wagner's personal collection, and eventually became a part of the legendary Barry Halper Collection. That example appeared as Lot #2195 in the famous Halper Auction of 1999, where it sold for $16,100. The offered example is bright, fresh, clean, and ideal for display. It has benefited from some minor professional restoration, which must be noted for the sake of accuracy, and which does not detract from the display's spectacular overall Excellent appearance. Beautifully museum-quality framed to dimensions of 21 x 26 inches. Reserve $4,000. Estimate $8,000/$12,000. ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
