Important Notice: Please note that the format of this auction differs from a traditional eBay Live auction in that only absentee bids are accepted. There is no live "bidding on the close" in which to participate. All lots offered in this auction will close at exactly the same time, as opposed to a traditional one at a time closing of lots, and therefore there is no live "one lot at a time" bidding close in which to participate. Your left bids will compete with all other left bids by auction participants. Bids may be placed on the eBay system at any time prior to 9:00 PM EST, May 1, 2004. No bids will be recognized or accepted when the eBay Live "live bidding applet" is run early in the morning of May 2, 2004 strictly for the purpose of officially registering and recording the final auction results.
1950 Bowman "Wild West" and 1953 Bowman "Frontier Days" Original Artwork In 1950 the Bowman Gum Company issued the classic Wild West series featuring beautiful color artwork capturing the spirit of the "Old West." The gorgeous color artwork and remarkable detail made this a smash hit immediately. By 1953 the Bowman Company was on the ropes financially. To inexpensively create a new product to generate badly needed revenue, Bowman produced what some collectors refer to as the "panic" issue, Frontier Days. To cut costs, Bowman simply used the artwork of the very successful former set Wild West to produce the Frontier Days series. This gorgeous original artwork (5 x 6-1/8 inches) was used to make card #A-36 from the Wild West set and card #18 from the Frontier Days set. The image is called "Snowbound Train" and pictures a crew of men removing snow from the tracks so the train could continue its route. The artwork is on a thick cardboard stock and is beautifully executed with extraordinary detail. The artwork is in Near Mint condition, and is accompanied by an example of both issued cards, all of which are beautifully matted together and ready to be framed. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600.
