Important Notice: Please note that the format of this auction differs from a traditional eBay Live auction in that only absentee bids are accepted. There is no live "bidding on the close" in which to participate. All lots offered in this auction will close at exactly the same time, as opposed to a traditional one at a time closing of lots, and therefore there is no live "one lot at a time" bidding close in which to participate. Your left bids will compete with all other left bids by auction participants. Bids may be placed on the eBay system at any time prior to 9:00 PM EST, May 1, 2004. No bids will be recognized or accepted when the eBay Live "live bidding applet" is run early in the morning of May 2, 2004 strictly for the purpose of officially registering and recording the final auction results.

Famous Norm Saunders Mars Attacks Self-Portrait Original Artwork

The offered original self-portrait by Norm Saunders is one of the collecting world's most famous images relating to the Mars Attacks set. It is the definitive Mars Attacks/Norm Saunders original artwork. This artwork first appeared in the August 1984 edition of Krause Publications' Baseball Cards Magazine, accompanying an article on Norm Saunders. Topps used this artwork on card #99 of its 1994 Mars Attacks Archives set. The artwork was also used to produce a very well known Limited Edition print issued in honor of Norm Saunders and his great contributions to the collecting world. In this unique self-portrait, Norm Saunders captures himself being painted by one of his trademark Mars Attacks Martians. When this artwork was originally created for Krause Publications in 1984, Norm Saunders was just beginning to be recognized for his great contributions to the world of non-sport cards, especially as the artist responsible for creating the Mars Attacks set. Saunders died in 1990. This is a fascinating and unique artwork by the legendary Norm Saunders, directly relating to his most enduring creation. Watercolor on paper, 7.5 x 10 inches, signed and dated "Saunders 84" in lower right. The artwork is in Near Mint to Mint condition. Accompanied by an original Limited Edition print and two1994 Topps Mars Attacks Archive cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000.
