Important Notice: Please note that the format of this auction differs from a traditional eBay Live auction in that only absentee bids are accepted. There is no live "bidding on the close" in which to participate. All lots offered in this auction will close at exactly the same time, as opposed to a traditional one at a time closing of lots, and therefore there is no live "one lot at a time" bidding close in which to participate. Your left bids will compete with all other left bids by auction participants. Bids may be placed on the eBay system at any time prior to 9:00 PM EST, May 1, 2004. No bids will be recognized or accepted when the eBay Live "live bidding applet" is run early in the morning of May 2, 2004 strictly for the purpose of officially registering and recording the final auction results.
1914 T330-2 Piedmont Art Stamp Ty Cobb PSA EX 5 Graded EX 5 by PSA. Extraordinary high grade example of the key card from one of the rarest and most condition-sensitive of all 1910 tobacco issues, the 1914 Piedmont Art Stamp series. The design of Piedmont Art Stamps is based closely on the design of T205 Gold Borders. Piedmont issued these fragile gum-backed stamps one per package. Because of their thin stock, perforated edges, and intended use (to be glued into albums), they rarely survive without serious damage, especially to their backs. Offered is the ultimate example of this issue, a gem of Ty Cobb. PSA has assigned the grade of EX 5 to the card, but the eye appeal is far better. It would be hard to imagine a finer example. The design of the issue leaves many areas for potential downgrading by PSA, especially with reference to the perforated edges. We grade this example higher, at least Ex-Mt. The colors are spectacular. The image of Cobb, of course, is very familiar, as it is identical to that used in the T205 Gold Border issue. Both the back and front are bright and clean. There is no damage to the reverse, which is rare for this issue. The blue Piedmont advertisement is bright and totally uninterrupted. An ideal prize example of this significant rarity for the type or Cobb collector. Reserve $750. Estimate $1,500/$2,500. ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
