Important Notice: Please note that the format of this auction differs from a traditional eBay Live auction in that only absentee bids are accepted. There is no live "bidding on the close" in which to participate. All lots offered in this auction will close at exactly the same time, as opposed to a traditional one at a time closing of lots, and therefore there is no live "one lot at a time" bidding close in which to participate. Your left bids will compete with all other left bids by auction participants. Bids may be placed on the eBay system at any time prior to 9:00 PM EST, May 1, 2004. No bids will be recognized or accepted when the eBay Live "live bidding applet" is run early in the morning of May 2, 2004 strictly for the purpose of officially registering and recording the final auction results.
Circa 1930 Milwaukee Giants Negro League Broadside Rare circa 1930 Negro League broadside advertises the Milwaukee Giants. Designed to promote the team and encourage locals to come see them in action, the broadside features a photograph of the team standing side by side, with player identifications below. Included are forgotten players, identified primarily by last name only, such as Strickland, Worrell, Williams, as well as team owner C.L. Gooch, and one player identified as "Chief Renville," suggesting that he may be of Indian descent. Despite the broadside's claim that they have "the best reputation of any club on the road," we cannot find this Giants team in our reference books. However, we have identified some of the individual players as being on the rosters of various prominent Negro League teams. Player uniforms read "McCoy-Nolan Giants." The broadside is a cream color with a panoramic photo of the owner and 12 of the players standing on the field. The poster measures 13.25 x 21.5 inches, and is beautifully matted and framed to dimensions of 21.5 x 28.5 inches. Unusual, rare, and ideal for display. Extremely high grade for a broadside of this era. Virtually flawless Excellent to Mint condition. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
