Description
DESCRIPTION: A small American Empire (circa 1840) mahogany veneered sideboard. The form consisting of two drawers over two additional drawers and two single door cupboards. The case resting upon simple carved feet in front and two straight legs on the back, as is typical of this period. The face of the chest having two free-carved spiral turned columns with antheminon capitals. The drawers with what appears to be original Sandwich glass hardware. PROVENANCE: By descent to the consignor from the family of Robert Fleming (1801-1874), Pennsylvania Senator in 1836 and 1839. MEASUREMENTS: 51"' x 20-1/4" x 43-1/4" high. CONDITION: Veneer loss and cracking. Top has been re-screwed to base.
