Description
DESCRIPTION: James Tissot (French, 1836-1902). Engraving on laid paper. Sa Première Culotte. Signed in engraving "JJ Tissot 1888". Hinged at top margin inside matte. Water mark to left side, slightly cut off, possibly "CS" in script. Some light aged handwriting under hinge on back. Under white matting in gold, silver, and green painted wooden frame. Born in 1836 in Nantes, France, he moved to Paris in 1856 or 1857 and enrolled at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts to study in the studios of Hippolyte Flandrin and Louis Lamothe. He worked and exhibited throught his life in both England and France. MEASUREMENTS: 7" x 3". Overall with frame 19-1/2" x 15-1/2". CONDITION: Light toning and brown staining to paper. Light wear to frame, scratching and chipping.
