A Bicolor Tourmaline "Swimming Sea Turtle" Carving, Gerd Dreher,
Idar-Oberstein, Germany,
formed from a large single Brazilian tourmaline crystal of fine quality, the turtle carved from a section of saturated rubellite color, the head and limbs textured to accurately imitate creased skin and reduced in thickness to reveal the gem transparency of the material, the eyes inset with marquise cut diamonds in 18 karat yellow gold bezels, the thicker body and shell of deep purple pink and intricately etched patterns, the yellowish green "rind" at the natural outer edge of the original crystal skillfully employed as the stippled finish seafloor.
Hand inscribed: (Maker's mark GD for Gerd Dreher).
