Description
Alberto Vargas began his career as an artist for Ziegfeld Follies , but became America's favorite Pin-Up artist during the WWII and postwar period, (1950-1990). His artwork graced the covers and inside pages of Esquire and Playboy, and found their way onto the nose of fighter jets during WWII , painted there by pilots as good luck charms or as company mascots, before heading off to meet the enemy. Each Varga Girl became synonymous with home, with camaraderie, or an awaiting sweetheart. They were reminders of hope and the possibility of returning home to better times. Lady in Red is from his Esquire series , and was produced by the Vargas Estate in a regular and a Deluxe Satin Edition. This is the Deluxe Edition, piece # 79/100 unframed. It is a signed Limited Edition continuous tone lithograph on silk paper, produced by Black Box Collotype, under the authorization of the Vargas Estate. Image size 38x26" UF. Ship weight approx. 10 lbs.
