SILHOUETTE BY EDOUART. From the Mrs. Nevill Jackson Collection. Cut out full length portrait of a young man in a frock coat, holding a top hat. Rebacked on paper with a hole that shows Edouart's handwritten identification "Wm. Lang...Glasgow, 23rd December, 1831". On the backing paper is a stamp "From Collection of Mrs. F. Nevill Jackson...London, England". Augustin Edouart (French 1789 - 1861) kept duplicates of his silhouettes in several folios with the sitter's information written on the back. On his return to England from America in 1849 the ship Oneida sank and Edouart was able to recover only a few of the folios. These eventually came into the possession of Mrs. F. Nevill Jackson and were featured in her books on silhouettes. Between glass in a bird's eye maple veneer frame. 11 7/8"h. 8 1/4"w
