EGYPTIAN TERRA COTTA TORSO OF THOERIS GODDESS OF CHILDBIRTH. 1st millennium BC. With the hippo-headed goddess standing holding her pregnant belly. The hippo goddess was the protectress of women in childbirth. 1.25 x 1.5 inches. Remains of white pigment. Rare and nice. Considerably better than photo.
Provenance: The collection of a prominent Egyptologist by descent assembled in the early part of the 20th century and brought to the US in 1954 with the family.
