Description
LRARE EARLY ITALIC POLYCHROME ASKOS, c. 8th-7th century BC. The vessel in the form of a water fowl, likely a duck, with red polychrome detailing. 5 inches. The Italic culture, along with the Roman, Samnian, Etruscan and other cultures were the original tribes of the Italian peninsula. They and the others were all eventually over run and conquered by the Romans but their legacy persists in the name of Italy.
Provenance: An extensive 20th century New Jersey collection.
