Description

MAMLUK ENAMELED GLASS FRAGMENT, Syria, c. 1300's. See 'Masterpieces of Glass', p. 80-81 for the type. The fragment with an partial turquoise blue Islamic inscription and red floral enamel design. 1.25 x 1.25 inches. Enameled Mamluk glass is among the rarest and most sought after of ancient glasses. Very rare.

Provenance: The collection of a prominent Egyptologist by descent assembled in the early part of the 20th century and brought to the US in 1954 with the family.
