Two medals awarded to Lt Col Henry Cecil East Smithett, OBE (Military) 1st type; 1902 Coronation Medal; and miniatures Major H C E Smithett was born in 1860 and his illustrious service record was: 1883-1886 - served in the ranks of the Seaforth Highlanders. 1886 - Lieutenant. 1895 - Captain. 1904 - Major. 1882-1892 - Adjutant 1st Battalion. 1895-1898 - Instructor of Musketry, Hythe. 1902 - on duty at King Edward VII's coronation, for which he received a medal. 1908 - Retired Pay. 1908 - Brigade Major 3rd West Riding Brigade During World War 1, he was appointed DAAQMG, Wessex Division, and afterwards Commandant, Machine Gun Schools at Grantham and Strensall. He was awarded the Order of the British Empire for his services.
