Unique piece of the history of space flight

Juri Gagarin took off to the first manned space flight from spaceport Baikonur on 12th of April in 1961. This event is not only considered as the beginning of manned space flight but also of great influence in many historical aspects. This flight caused a lot of enthusiasm for space flight in the Eastern world. The Western people on the other hand were shown their technological gap for the second time after the first satellite Sputnik. They faced this humiliation with making great effort to be the first men on the moon which they achieved as everybody knows.

At first appearance this is a small and inconspicuous piece but it is intensively connected to these events and therefore a unique piece of the history of space flight. It is a fragment of the famous space ship Vostok 1 which brought Juri Gagarin into space. After one entire orbit around the earth Gagarin began his final descent. He bailed out and landed after 1 hour and 48 minutes. The capsule came down nearby. A mission helper broke off a piece of the retrorocket and had Gagarin sign it two days later.

The fragment is signed and inscribed '??????? ??????' (=Gagarin Vostok). It measures 5.8 x 4.3 cm and is in very good condition. It comes in a red velvet box and with a handwritten confirmation letter.
