Description
An Exceptional 19th Century Hand Painted KPM Porcelain Plaque. Magnificently painted, this unusual scene depicts Alchemists and Nobility together in a Laboratory. The interior scene looks Dutch or Flemish in nature and is cluttered with Scientific elements and instruments; a fiery crucible, bellows, scattered bottles, ashes, fire, and billowing smoke surround a Scene of Two Alchemists hard at work for the two Noblemen. Signed "L. Sturm" at the lower right (Ludwig L. Sturm, German, 1844-1926); the porcelain is unmarked with exception of a faintly incised number. Very minor wear to image. Visible portion of image is 11 1/2" x 16" high, in a gilt wood and gesso frame with some repair, 26 3/4" x 30 3/4" high overall. ESTIMATE $6,000-8,000
