Description
This a very rare original vintage 1920s Art Deco print by William Guillermo Bolin.
Titled The Favorites. Illuminated by a single spotlight, a Harlequin and a ballerina cross the darkened stage in a series of slow high kicks.
It appeared on the October 1921 cover of Vanity Fair magazine--this is not the cover but a stand alone print. In the 20 years we've been collecting art deco prints, we have not seen another one like this. Beautiful vintage deco frame. Framed at a local Minneapolis store, Donaldson's, that has been out of business for many years.
SIZE: Approx. 14 1/2" x 17".
Guillermo Bolin was Spanish. He was an illustrator with Vogue from around 1924 to 1935. The book Fashion Drawing in Vogue says "Vogue was joined in the mid-20s by Spaniard Guillermo Bolin, also the designer of some notable covers, who adopted a graphic process more fractured and dynamic but close in style, and spirit to Art Deco adventurousness." Bolin was established in New York. In 1926, he had sketched the Barbara Lee spring frocks. In 1931, it is mentioned that Vogue looks back at the crisp graphic style of Bolin in the later 20s with his clean lines and flattened volumes.
