6. [ALEXANDER THE GREAT] Choice silver tetradrachm, ca. 336-323 BC, mounted as unique pendant, overall almost 1¼" in diameter. The obverse displays head of Alexander as Heracles draped in lion's skin. On the reverse is the God Zeus seated on his throne facing left with right arm outstretched, an eagle resting on his hand. Attractively set in custom modern pendant mount of vermeil designed to preserve the integrity of this ancient artifact. Raised and supplied for world conquest by his father, Philip II, King of Macedon, Alexander wasted no time in gathering a vast kingdom. When he died in Babylon at the age of thirty-three in 323 BC his rule extended from Greece to India. MB: $225
