20. SHEKEL OF TYRE Silver coin, c. 18 BC - 70 AD. Obverse design is the Laureate Head of Melgarth wearing a lion skin knotted around his neck and an eagle on the reverse. Together with the silver half-shekel, these were the only currencies accepted at the Temple in Jerusalem and are considered by most historians to be the coins referred to in Matthew as the "thirty pieces of silver" given to Judas Iscariot to betray Jesus. MB: $150
