21. SILVER DENARIUS Popularly referred to as "Tribute Penny" minted in Imperial Rome during reign of Tiberius. On obverse is displayed Laureate image of Tiberius with inscription "TI CAESAR DIVI AVG F AVGVSTVS." On the reverse is a seated female figure holding an olive branch and a long sceptre with inscription "PONTIF MAXIM." This is the coin referenced in Mark 12:14-17: "Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?..and He saith unto them...bring me a penny...whose is this image...Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's and to God the things that are God's..." Fine example of one of the best known New Testament coins. MB: $150
