[Civil War]. FLAGS OF THE ARMY OF THE UNITED STATES CARRIED DURING THE WAR OF THE REBELLION 1861-1865, to designate the headquarters of the different Armies, Army Corps, Divisions and Brigades. Compiled under the direction of the Quartermaster General U. S. Army. 1887. Logo in lower margin of title: “Bunn & McPetridge Lith. Phila.” C-page: “Copyright, 1888, by Brig. Geo. S. B. Holabird, Q. M. Gen., U. S. A.” Consists of 89 leaves (88 lithographed, 1 purely printed): Litho title + single-leaf “Note” + 87 color lithographs showing the flags of various Union Army units. The leaf with printed “Note” (which immediately follows the title page) has a tear along most of the inner margin, with a small publisher’s ad tipped to it by a contemporary owner. Folio. Orig dark brown cloth with gilt front cover title DESIGNATING FLAGS OF THE UNITED STATES ARMY, 1861-1865. Hinges, free eps, and flyleaf torn. Considerable staining to exterior. Covers and contents considerably dampwrinkled, with dampstaining slightly within images of last few plates. Sold with all faults.
