144. [SLAVE ARREST] Collection of four documents recording the arrest and trial of a slave for burglary. DsS, various sizes, Lincoln County, KY, Aug-Oct 1814. Two documents, an affidavit and complaint on legal folios in which laborer William Montgomery witnessed the breaking and entering of his house by the Negro boy named Harry "now the property of Davis Caldwell of Mercer County" and his theft of clothing "together with sundry other articles..." Plus a subpoena ordering eleven slaves to appear and testify at County Court, light wear and wrinkling; and an expense claim for their trial attendance.
