WALTER GERHOLD - GERMANY'S "HUMAN TORPEDO"
(1921 - 2013) German sailor and Knights Cross recipient who piloted the one-man torpedo Neger (Negro) which struck the Polish cruiser DRAGON off the D-Day beaches on June 7, 1944. Lot of three signed items, includes a war-date S.P., 7" x 5" b/w showing Gerhold in diving gear atop a torpedo, preparing to be launched; an I.S.P., 8" x 10", photocopy of a magazine photo showing him being awarded his KC, creased; and a transmittal envelope bearing his block-letter signature.
