(1878 - 1956) American admiral, commander in chief of the Atlantic fleet and chief of naval operations (1942-45). War-date A.L.S. adding rank as CIC, Atlantic Fleet, 1p. 8v., USS Augusta, Oct. 2, 1941 to a lady sending a few lines and hoping that they will suffice for her purposes. Fine. The AUGUSTA served as the flagship for Presidents Roosevelt and Truman, and participated in the TORCH and OVERLORD landings in North Africa and Normandy.
