Description
DOUGLAS MACARTHUR
(1880 - 1964) American general and Allied Supreme Commander in the Pacific in World War II, accepted the surrender of Japan and was later dismissed by Truman for advocating an invasion of China. Great association T.L.S., 1p. 4to., New York, Aug. 20, 1951 to his ex-wartime fellow Army commander and friend, Lieut Gen. Robert C. Richardson (1882-1954) who commanded all Army forces in the Pacific. MacArthur laments the death of Richardson's wife, but knows that his friend will meet the "...emergency, with the gallantry and distinction which have always so become you...". Docketed at bottom, else very good. Four months earlier MacArthur had been sacked by Truman.
