Description
LEMUEL C. SHEPHERD, JR.
(1896 - 1990) Marine Corps Commandant and general in two wars, led the invasion of Guam and Okinawa. Good content war-date T.L.S. with 6th Marine Division patch, 1p. 4to., "HEADQUARTERS...IN THE FIELD", to an admirer. The general thanks the man for sending clippings concerning the "Okinawa operation. It was interesting to see what the press had to say about our action in the combat zone...the division is in a rehabilitation zone...". The writer was in the habit of requesting a patch, and one is included, undoubtedly sent by Shepherd. The letter and signed envelope were unfortunately taped at margins to an album page, but they are not glued-down. Slight damping, just good.
