2ND INFANTRY DIVISION HISTORY OWNED BY A P.O.W.
Bound combat history of the 2nd Infantry Division, (Baton Rouge: Army & Navy Publishing Co.), 1946. 202pp. 4to., photo illustrated throughout. The 2nd "Indianahead" Division landed on Omaha Beach on D+1 and desperately fought to take Hill 192 on the way to St. Lo. The division the raced to take Brest, rested, fought in the Bulge, and ended the war fighting near Pilsen. This copy of the division history was owned by William D. Albaugh, captured during the war and held at Stalag XI-B located just to the east of the town of Fallingbostel in Lower Saxony. During the war, 30,000 Soviet prisoners died at the camp, and 734 prisoners from other Allied countries perished there as well.
