FLIEGERKORPS PHOTOGRAPH ALBUM AND DOCUMENT GROUPING
A superlative archive of photographs and documents pertaining to the training and military career of Luftwaffe Gefreiter Hans-Peter Steffen of Transportstaffel des II Fliegerkorps. Between the photograph album and additional loose photos there are 240 images which document Steffen's service to Third Reich from the time he was a member of the Hitler Youth until his attainment of an officer's rank and service in the Luftwaffe. Photos show him training with the Hitler Youth, land after joining the Luftwaffe he is seen in the Alps, in the attacks on Poland and in Russia, with later service in Belgium, France and Italy. Some images also show the young pilot in an Afrika Korps uniform. Steffen also took time to photograph destroyed towns, damaged and destroyed Soviet, German and Italian aircraft, and even the visit of Knights Cross recipient Werner Molders. Also present are a number of documents related to Steffen's service, including his rare certificate naming him to the "Transportstaffel des II. Fliegerkorps", War Merit Cross with Swords certificate, 1942, signed by Gen. BRUNO LOERZER, Luftwaffe award of the Honor Badge of II Luftflotille given to Steffen in recognition of his technical service in the Russian campaign, signed by ALBERT KESSELRING, SS genealogical questionnaire, and unrelated school documents. A fine grouping.
