Description
"STEPPIN' OUT" PAINTED BOMBER JACKET
Painted World War II sheepskin "bomber" jacket, a heavy model B-3, size 46, made by H.L.B. Corp. The verso of the heavily-worn jacket bears the name of the bomber: "STEPPIN OUT" in red and white lettering above an image of a nude seductress either putting-on or taking off a negligee (depending on the viewer's state of mind). The lower part of the jacket has thirteen red bombs painted thereto, each bomb representing a mission. This jacket has seen heavy use: the left and right rear of each sleeve have been restored with matching brown leather, the end of both sleeves bear large tears, some straps may have been replaced, and a pocket has been retrofitted to the front. The brown dyed finish has flaked but remains very good. A copy of a wartime photo of an aircraft with a nearly identical "logo" is included. The aircraft appears to be a DC-3, so the "missions" painted on the jacket may have been cargo or personnel missions.
