WAR OF 1812 BRITISH P.O.W. CARVED DOMINO SET
British prisoner of war's intricately hand-carved bone domino set, includes 36 domino tiles and the exquisite case. According to our consignor, this item was obtained with other items originally from a British soldier named "Baker", captured by the Americans in the 1813 Battle of Toronto (York) and thereafter held prisoner in Canada. The case stands on four pedestals and is decorated with colored red and blue semi-circles and holes. A carefully made lid slides across the top to contain the dominoes within. The lid is decorated with two color ink drawings of flowers growing in an urn and a lady watering other plants in an urn, both pictures under glass set in the lid. The pictures are framed with a saw tooth design, semi-circles, and holes which again are colored red and blue. This is a wonderful creation, a fine piece of prisoner-or-war art!
