Description
SPENCER, BROWNING & RUST TELESCOPE
Ca. 1840 mahogany and brass telescope from the important London instrument maker Spencer, Browning & Rust. This firm was in business between 1784-1840 and was succeeded by Spencer, Browning & Co. who were in business until 1870. The single stage telescope 20 1/4" close, 36" fully opened, and both eyepiece and the far end of the telescope bear sliding brass protective plates. All glass is solidly in place. Images remain blurred, and although we are not optics experts, perhaps this could be remedied. The mahogany barrel bears surface scratches consistent from use, but has neither splits nor any other significant damage.
